Restoration of Paper Mache Box

Used as a Turban box is from misllaneous section of collection of Sanskriti Museum of Everyday art. It was previously restored, so the heavy coating of PVA resin started shrinking putting strain on weak areas. The box is cleaned with toluene first to remove old resin and later with acetone to reach appropriate authentic layer. Mechanical cleaning was also done areas where there were heavy incrustations. The layer of paper was coming out and lot of areas were becoming fluffy due to loss of original adhesive which was gum arabic.2% gum Arabic is injected and put under pressure for consolidation wherever required.
